Santa Maria della Salute – A Baroque Masterpiece in the Heart of Venice
Nestled at the entrance of the Grand Canal, Santa Maria della Salute stands as one of Venice's most iconic landmarks, blending breathtaking architecture with profound historical significance. This 17th-century Baroque church, also known simply as La Salute, draws millions of visitors annually for its grandeur, spiritual aura, and panoramic views of the Venetian Lagoon.
Built in 1631 as a votive offering to the Virgin Mary after a devastating plague, Santa Maria della Salute symbolizes hope, healing, and Venetian devotion. Designed by Baldassare Longhena, the church was constructed on a platform supported by over 100,000 wooden piles. Its monumental dome has since become a defining feature of Venice’s skyline.
